Corvette Nation & Other Ramblings |
E.O. was kind enough to offer a page for NCM news but, after some thought; we decided to insert one that sort of covered all things Corvette. The NCM website already covers that news so there was no sense in being redundant. If any members want coverage of some subject we have missed, just let us know. There are many great Corvette events going on around the country and some are worth a try if you have the time to spend. One great happening is Mid-America Motorworks Fun Fest in Effingham , IL . This year's Fest is September 19th -21 st . The event is free and Mike Yager sees to it that everyone has a great time and receives multiple free goodies. Log on to www.mamotorworks.com and check out the full schedule of events. You can expect around 15,000 Corvettes and I'll bet all hotel rooms are already taken in a 25 mile radius. Another staggering event is the Black Hills Corvette Classic in South Dakota on July 16 th -19 th . The event starts in Sioux Falls , caravans across the state, and then you'll have two more days of non-stop events. If you have never seen Mount Rushmore or Devil's Tower, then this is a must. The website at www.blackhillscorvetteclassic.com is chock full of information. Three websites I regularly visit to keep up with Corvette issues are www.corvetteactioncenter.com , www.corvetteforum.com and www.digitalcorvettes.com . I had the recent pleasure of replacing the shifter assembly in my 2007 Z-06. The problem is a plastic bushing that cracks causing a buzzing/rattling sound (loud) as you accelerate hard in first and second gear. This problem is not confined to Z-06s as all six speeds are susceptible to the failure. The breakage usually occurs in the 3000-5000 mile range. There is a bulletin on this problem so your dealer should have all the info. Mike Yager of Mid-America Motorworks has petitioned the US Congress to declare June 30 th as “National Corvette Day ”. The first Corvette rolled out of the Flint , MI assembly line on June 30 th , 1953 and this year coincides with the 100 th Anniversary of GM. Every Corvette owner is encouraged to petition his or her congressional representative to pass this resolution. To find your congressperson, go to http://www.house.gov . Put your zip code in the upper left corner. For more information, go to www.mamotorworks.com/corvette or call 800-500-1500. And by the way, Friday, June 27 th , 2008 is national “Drive Your Corvette to Work Day”. Sorry, I can't participate, I don't work. Save the Wave Paul Mariano |
